Raku is a Japanese technique of glaze firing which involves removing the glazed pots from the kiln when the glaze is molten (around 1000 degrees Celsius). The pots are then put in a reduction chamber and covered with sawdust before being quenched in water, this process together with the appropriate glaze gives the characteristic variation in colour and texture of Raku ware.
