DAVID PEARCE

David is a self-taught artist whose work has been exhibited internationally since 1998.

He recently had great success at New York’s hippest Art Fair the “Outsider” where he  was featured by Marion Harris Fine Art who has been dealing his
work from her Gallery on Park Avenue since 2003. His work is on permanent display at the Anthony Petullo Collection Milwaukee.

Much of the intrigue and the achievement in this work lies in the apparent contradictions and in the way the juxtapositions invite the viewer to look again at
the ordinary and the familiar. The crudeness of technique, materials and subject matter in these paintings is completely deliberate. The artist can tease and
challenge the expectations of the public and like Sid Vicious singing “My Way” produce something sufficiently visceral and immediate to get under the aesthetic radar screen.

Statement:

These work are made up of the light, colour and texture of the north Cornwall coast. With no specific starting point they evolve through the process of abstract mark  making and colour juxtapositions to form images and sensations such places first brought to mind … I combine immediately recognisable motifs (boats, trees, etc) with a centralised abstract structure to produce jewel like objects. By using this central composition, shaped boarders and the crudity of the paint handling I distances the viewer from any preconceived ideas of what a good or bad painting is, letting the visual enjoyment and intrigue be the only things of importance.”
