THE COLOURS OF SUMMER

CURRENT EXHIBITION
12-20 January

RICHARD HEWLETT

Richard Hewlett was brought up in Cheshire and the Lake District, both areas of outstanding beauty that were to influence and fuel his creative talents. He studied at The Bath Academy of Art situated at Corsham Court in yet another beautiful part of the country and at The Ruskin School of Drawing in Oxford. In addition to painting throughout his adult life, Richard has been both an antiquarian print and antiques dealer. To both of these careers he has brought the well-tuned eye of the artist, carefully considering, looking and understanding each object before buying.

As an artist, Hewlett employs a full knowledge of drawing and vibrant colour, which is reflected in his paintings. The influences of Edward Lear and John Singer Sargent, both devotees of Corfu, together with the works of the Cubist and Expressionist movements, are clearly present in his works.

This is the forth annual one-man show that Hewlett has had and it displays his deep love of both Provence and the island of Corfu. As he plans to spend most of his time in the Mediterranean, I believe we can look forward to many more beautiful paintings and drawings in the future.
